And if the government won't stop...
A routine visit by a U.S. Census Worker on Thursday evening turned deadly when Yuba City police officers shot and killed a woman they said had first threatened the worker with a gun, then later confronted officers with a shotgun.
You ain't gonna count me. I'd rather be dead than anonymously counted so my town will have some fucking library or a new freeway or know where to build a school.

I got the long form in 2000, and it really is intrusive. It goes way beyond what is needed for the beneficial purposes you cite, in a comedic fashion. I suspect most people upset about the census have gotten the long form and realize that intimate details about their lives are being forwarded to the highest corporate bidder.
Can't people just refuse to take part?
First of all, if you had mailed back your census form on time no one would be knocking...
Any information they are looking for in the 10 questions is public knowledge and available elsewhere so you are not giving up info that anyone could not get. I have had people spend 20 minutes telling one of my enumerators that he didn't have time to complete a 10 minute or less interview...imagine that. A respondent can quickly end a call simply by telling the enumerator how many people lived at that address on April 1st. Keep in mind that those census takers (enumerators) live in your neighborhood (could be you next door neighbor). They are trying to do a job that your constitution mandated that would be done once every ten years. When a census taker knocks, please be friendly and cooperatative and provide common information and move on with you lives.
LIBHOM...THIS IS NOT 2000. GET UP TO DATE. PEOPLE, THERE IS NOTING THAT THE CENSUS 2010 IS ASKING THAT YOUR GOV DOESN'T ALREADY KNOW. JUST A DIFFERENT DATABASE FO DRAW INFORMATION. THE DATA IS USED FOR REDISTRICTING AND FUNDING OF PROGRAMS DOWN TO THE LOCAL LEVEL. FUNDS THAT HAVE ALREADY BE ALLOCATED. STEP UP, BE COUNTED AND HELP YOUR COMMUNITY QUALIFY FOR SOME OF THOSE FUNDS (COULD VERY WELL SAVE YOU ON LOCAL TAXES).
